Mannitol is a diuretic that is used to reduce swelling and pressure inside the eye or around the brain. It is also given to people suffering from kidney failure to remove excess water and toxins since mannitol helps to produce more urine in the body by increasing the concentration of filtrates in the kidney and blocking reabsorption of water by kidney tubules.
